Wedding Cake Suggestions.
December 23, 2008 by Chef Recipe · Leave a Comment
Today, I am focusing on all those yummy, and don’t forget, beautiful Wedding cakes that I have tasted over the years.
I have taste tested so many wonderful cakes at Weddings over the years and I thought I’d share some ideas and suggestions with you when planning your Wedding and trying too find the most perfect cake. And wait a minute, not just trying to find the perfect cake, but trying to find the mot beautiful and season conscious cakes as well.
First, the yummy part. Cakes are very important at Weddings. People are always so excited for the cake part. Making sure that is taste yummy is equally important, as making sure that it look beautiful. Suggestions go out there, around the city and towns that you live and taste test! Its fun and is most certainly a must. Every baker has his or hers own way and style of baking. Some bakers I’ve noticed tastes a little more salty than others, etc. So taste testing is truly your best option! Not to mention, it’s a blast!!
Another important part of taste testing is that you make sure you get a variety of options. Now, just because you are a chocolate lover and want chocolate cake, with chocolate frosting drizzled in fudge, doesn’t mean everyone loves that too. What I’ve have seen done most at Weddings is the Bride and Groom will make the cake that they cut, just the way they like it, and then on the other tiers, make different flavors like vanilla, lemon, raspberry, strawberry, etc. So make sure that you have a few options, as everyone’s tastes are different.
Another suggestion, add a little funk to your cake! Instead of just having a cake with frosting, have your Baker put something in the middle. Isn’t it just the best when you are eating a doughnut and you bite into it only to discover that its jelly or pudding filled! Jack pot!! That’s the best. So do that with your cake. My most favorite cake I’ve ever had at a Wedding was of course, at my own Wedding. And the guests loved this cake. It was Vanilla cake, but in the center was sugared cream cheese and fresh strawberries. It was to die for! Yummy! And the guests were very pleasantly surprised.
Now to beautifying your cake! This part is very important as well. Photographs and Videos will be taken of this cake and of you and your new spouse cutting the cake and feeding it to each other. Just as you are picture perfect that day, so must your cake be also! Make sure that the colors on your cake coordinate with the colors of your Wedding and please make sure that nothing clashes!
Lastly, flowers. I know your thinking, “Wait! Flowers? Aren’t we talking about Wedding cakes?” Yes, we are. However, fresh flowers are a “must have” on your Wedding cake!! Cake make sure, in an organized way, you put fresh flowers, preferably flowers that match your bouquet. And did you know? There are suck things as eatable flowers?? Yes, its true! Eatable orchids are the yummiest, get the purple ones!
All in all, make sure your Wedding cake is yummy, beautiful and coordinates perfectly. Also, don’t forget to be weather conscious! Chocolate cakes with vanilla ice cream are good for winter, and lighter vanilla types cakes with sorbets are better for the Springs/Summers. Even an Ice Cream cake would be cool and really original!
Whatever you decide, make it wonderful!!

Cooking simply means the preparation. This is for the purpose of eating through the use of heat. It comprises of a wide selection of methods, ingredients, and cooking utensils needed to bring out the flavor of the food that you are making and to make it edible as well.
With the appropriate process of selection, measurement as well as proper mixture of your ingredients in a step by step manner can be achieved. This is in order to create mouth watering dishes. The outcome of this is also affected by certain factors that you can input on your actual cooking. Such factors are your ingredients, cooking utensils, ambient conditions, and most importantly, the skills of the cook himself.
The vast variety of cooking methods in the different parts of the world reflects one’s cultural, social, religious, agricultural, nutritional, economical as well as aesthetic values. It mirrors the colorful yet diverse complexities and distinctiveness of each country and its character. It is a way of expressing one’s national pride, leaving an impact on the one who is actually tasting it.
In cooking, the use of heat is very important for it is one of the main components in order to create your own delicacy. Through the use of heat, food is transformed in its chemical content. Thus, altering its flavor, nutritional properties, texture, consistency and also its appearance is advisable.
The following are the type of cooking techniques based on kind of cooking you like:

In addition, by using heat on food preparation, this means that you can actually kill as well as inactivate harmful organisms such as viruses and bacteria that are potentially harmful. However, this will also depend on the length of the cooking time, and temperature. Moreover, the technique is also the main factor applied.
Hence, avoid cooking in temperatures that would range from 5 degrees up to 60 degrees Celsius. This is considered as the “food danger zone” mainly because bacteria can grow fast in this kind of temperature. Although the food being prepared may seem to be edible or clean, it can still cause harm due to the improper way of cooking it.
As for dairy products, poultry, meat and others, the food should be prevented from in the “food danger zone” so that it can be consumed safely. As for freezing food as well as refrigerating it, these methods just slow down the growth of organisms but not kill them.
Another means for safe food preparation is to practice proper hand washing and cleaning technique. In preparing your food, always make sure that you wash your hands before and after handling foods, cooking and when handling soiled utensils.
Moreover, you should wash fruits and vegetable thoroughly in order to wash out organisms that are harmful. Also, clean your utensils by washing them with antibacterial soap and cleanser. Plus, rinse them thoroughly with water. Lastly, always maintain your cooking area clean by sanitizing them with a bleach mixture that is a combination of 1 gallon of water with 1 tablespoon of bleach.
Cooking is like a fun adventure, if you are into it. Many famous Chefs did not learn their art by just following recipe books and techniques handed over by the elder generation. Chefs follow their own calling and experiment with the knowledge they have about food. They try different ingredients and test it out. Of course, no one can perfect a recipe at the first attempt. It is only in the desire to learn and the skill to do it that one learns to master the art of cooking.
Some of the popular Celebrity Chefs are as follows:
Bobby Flay
Mario Batali
Emeril Lagasse
Rachael Ray
Jamie Oliver
In a chef’s world, the measure of success in this field can only be achieved in one program on TV, the competition called Iron Chef.

Fresh, Delicious And Simple - The Food Of Majorca
December 16, 2008 by Chef Recipe · Leave a Comment
When you’re planning an all inclusive holiday to Majorca, perhaps the last thing on your mind is the excellent food available while out there. Obviously the beaches, sunshine and activities are at the forefront of your mind at this stage, but you’ll be relieved to hear that Majorca’s food is really good and made from local produce. The seafood, especially is fresh and flavoursome, and although it’s possible to get every type of cuisine under the sun (you can easily find an authentic curry house, or a full English breakfast in the resorts) the local Majorca cuisine is hearty, flavoursome and fairly priced. In this article, I shall outline some of the traditional foods you can expect to find on a package holiday to Majorca.
Breakfasts
Common wisdom dictates that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and whether you believe this or not, it’s best to become a temporary subscriber so you can enjoy an ensaimada each morning. These are spiral yeast buns dusted with icing sugar, and are rarely seen outside of the island, making them a popular product for tourists to fill their suitcases with when the time comes to leave the island paradise. Make sure you bring a few back when you reach the end of your all inclusive holiday to Majorca.
Light Bites
Although these are labelled as light bites, it’s very easy to come back to these Majorcan food items, making them into a whole meal and spoiling your dinner! Treats range from trampos (similar to vegetarian pizza), cocarrious (local pasties), local soups and pa’amb oli - a traditional mix of Majorcan bread, garlic, tomato and olive oil, sometimes with cheese or cured ham on top. You should definitely try these delicacies of Majorca’s cuisine during your visit to the island.
Filling Dinners
If you have managed to resist filling up on cocarrious, the main meals are sure to leave you satisfied. Pork is the main meat in Majorca’s cuisine, and the lechona asada (roast sucking pig) is a favourite for those who usually end up with eyes bigger than their stomachs. Pork also plays a big part in sobrasada (chorizo sausages) and llom amb col, an old favourite of pork wrapped in cabbage with pine nuts and raisons. Lamb is an alternative to pork based dishes, and fish eaters will delight in the fresh monkfish and bream, and may even indulge in the lobster stew on a special occasion. Another favourite in Majorcan food is ‘frit mallorqui’ - a fry up of offal, potatoes, tomatoes and onions.
All of this sounds a little worrying for vegetarians looking to find good cuisine in Majorca, but rest assured there are a number of options available for them, all using vegetables grown locally: cauliflower with raisins and pine nuts, pumpkin fritters, various mushroom dishes, and my personal favourite: tumbet, which is a ratatouille of aubergines, peppers and potatoes in olive oil.
Indulging the Sweet Tooth
Majorca’s deserts aren’t the strong point of Majorcan food, but there’s still enough here to warrant saving some space for afters. Turron is handmade nougat with local almonds, puding is the name for a desert similar to cr
